Make-up 101: Contour, Bronzer, Blush, and Highlight

Posted By Edge
The key to gorgeous makeup is building from a solid base. You might be able to pull off a simple, everyday look without any contouring or highlighting, but if you want to enhance your look more, then it's time to master some makeup basics.

Our faces became flat after we apply our base.
Why does this happen? When you apply your foundation, it evens out the color of your skin, making it look more two-dimensional. It also makes your overall skin tone a little brighter. This can make your features look a little washed out and accentuate any unevenness in the skin. This is where contour, bronzer, blush, and highlighter are called to rescue! So, how do they work?

Contour is an art form and a technique that can be used to create a definition on the face.

Contouring your face gives you more control over how light and shadow are reflected off every surface, including your skin. This also helps to create a balance between all of your facial features so that you look well-proportioned when finished.

There are a few different types of contour makeup that you can use to define your face and make it look slimmer.

  • Creamy: This type of contour makeup is best for beginners because it's easy to apply, but it can be harder to blend than powder.
  • Powder: This is another option for beginners, but it's more difficult since you have to blend it well with a brush or sponge or else it will look patchy.
  • Liquid: This type of contour makeup is often used by professionals because it's easier to blend than other types of contour makeup options.

Bronzers can be used to give the skin a healthy, sun-kissed glow. They can also be used to contour or define your face. A bronzer will help make the skin look healthy and youthful.

It is applied to the face to add color, warmth, and contour to the skin. Its use adds contrast between your facial features, giving you a sun-kissed look without actually being in the sun. It can also be used to give your face a healthy glow and make it look slimmer by creating shadows on your cheeks and jawline.

The types of bronzer makeup include:

  • Natural bronzers: These are perfect for those looking for a natural look as they come in shades that will suit most skin tones. They are also great if you have sensitive skin as they do not contain any harsh chemicals such as talc or parabens.
  • Matte bronzers: These are great for those with oily skin as they help reduce shine on the face so you can have that perfect matte look all day long without worrying about your makeup running off your face.
  • Shimmer bronzers: These can be used on both dry and wet skin depending on what effect you want to achieve with your bronzer makeup application process (i.e., if you want a shimmer), but always make sure that your foundation has been thoroughly applied first before applying any shimmers so that there are no clumps or uneven patches on your face!

Contour vs. Bronzer
When it comes to makeup, there are a lot of terms thrown around that can get a little confusing. Contouring and bronzing are two makeup techniques used to define the face. They may seem to be the same, but their functions are different.

Contouring is used to add shadows and depth to certain areas of your face, which can enhance your features and give you a more sculpted look while bronzing is a method of adding warmth and color to the skin, which can make it appear more radiant.

Blush is a cosmetic powder that is applied to the cheeks, usually in a circular motion to create a rosy glow.

It is the tool we use to highlight areas of our faces. It can be used to give you a youthful appearance, make you look more vibrant, and even make you appear more alive. It is a critical part of the makeup routine, but it's often misunderstood. Blush doesn't just make your face look prettier—it does a lot more than that.

Blush helps us to define our cheekbones and give our faces a more angular appearance. This can help to make you look younger and healthier (which is always good!). And it also adds warmth and color to your face, which can help to make you appear more relaxed and approachable.

Types of Blush:

  • Powder blush comes in powder form and can be applied with a brush or your fingers. It is ideal for summer as powder blushes give a matte finish. If you have oily skin or large pores or both, this type of blush would be perfect for you.
  • Cream blush comes in cream form, and it can be applied with your fingers or an angled brush. These products contain essential oils and moisturizing components making them perfect for dry and parched skin. If you want a more pigmented and dewy, glowy finish, cream blushes should be your go-to choice.
  • Stick blush comes in a stick form and is applied directly to your face with your fingers or a brush. Stick blushes are great for beginners because they're easy to apply and blend into your skin. If you're looking for something more natural-looking, stick blushes are ideal because they tend to be less pigmented than liquid or shimmer blushes.
  • Liquid blush has recently made a real impression on the beauty world. With a fresh, dewy finish, liquid blushers look so natural and blend seamlessly into the skin for a delicate, soft finish. Perfect for the summer months when wearing a lighter base and minimal makeup.

Highlighter is used to enhance the features on your face.

A highlighter is a type of makeup that helps draw attention to certain areas of your face. It can be used to highlight the cheekbones, brow bone, nose, cupid's bow (the area above the lip), and even the cheekbones under the eyes. Highlighting gives your face dimension and depth, which makes you look more awake and radiant.

There are two different types of highlighters:

  • Powder: This type of highlighter comes in a compact and is applied with a brush or sponge. It can be used on its own or with other products like foundation or concealer.
  • Liquid: This type of highlighter comes in a bottle and is applied with a brush or sponge. It's usually applied after the foundation has been applied because it tends to be very liquid.

Conclusion

There are so many different types of makeup you can use to enhance your features and make yourself look more beautiful. The important thing is not just to understand the concept behind each type of makeup but also how exactly they work on your face so that you are able to apply them correctly every time.
