When curling your hair with tongs, don't twist your hair in the same direction for each section, as you want this look to be naturally wavy and not too uniform. Instead, rough dry your hair with your fingers and then, once dry, take random sections of hair and wrap around a curling iron holding for around 3-5 seconds to curl.

For more disheveled, beachy waves, wrap smaller sections of hair around the curl wand and change the direction that you wrap the hair so that the waves differ in direction. Once all hair has been curled, take each section of hair at the end and shake it to open up the wave, before gently misting with hairspray.

 

A secret to long-lasting curls is leaving them to cool and set before brushing them out using a detangling comb. That way you don't flatten your waves - as you might with a larger brush or lots of hairsprays - while still creating natural-looking curls that last. Don't worry if the ends drop either, as leaving the ends straight makes the look more modern and beachy too.

Section freshly washed damp hair into four tight space buns, securing with an Invisibobble to avoid kinks.
